Your Guide ~ Ben “Good Vibes” Spellman

With an infectious enthusiasm for life, it doesn’t take long to understand how Ben became known to the community as Good Vibes. Through 11 moves and different 9 schools during his childhood in Des Moines, the seed was planted for living in the moment. From a young age, learned that to have community you have to grow it. Always an athlete, Ben first explored yoga through a course at the University of Northern Iowa. While enduring some trying personal times that tested his will and challenged his perspective, Ben would again turn to yoga in 2011 when an acquaintance provided him a list of 90 yoga poses. In an attempt to reflect and move forward, Ben used that list to learn movement, focus and meditation and became a passionate practitioner. His everyday commitment to learning and exploration of all styles and practices has helped mold his teaching methods. In 2013, he earned his 200-hour registered yoga teacher certification and began to use teaching as a way to bring people together. Good Vibes guides you on a journey of energy and peace through yoga. His genuine personality and radiant positive energy has generated a loyal tribe of yogis in the Des Moines community where he is leading a movement of human reconnection.

$600per child includes:

  • childcare included during yoga classes with fresh fruit smoothies and pool + beach play
  • free lodging in whichever room their parent(s) have reserved
  • meals: delicious + mostly local/organic
  • a kids yoga class + kirtan with Hannah & Ruby Bea
  • historical field trip to ancient Mayan temple included
  • fun family time together on the beach
  • availability to book (you pay) nanny for nights or days out
  • $50 discount per child if more than one child

Most of Hannah’s other retreats/trainings are not set up for kids, so this one is designed specifically with families in mind.  This Mexico Retreat is over President’s Day, and most schools have Monday off, and many have the whole week off.  Regardless, this will be a nourishing trip for the whole family that will be well worth taking some time off to enjoy the sunshine + each other!

Lodging Options

For your stay, we have an array of beautiful options for you to choose from.

Look at photos and more details here.

Cabanas: Round wooden stand-alone cabanas with private bathrooms, air conditioning, small outdoor terraces, and double beds (1 or 2).

Oceanfront Cabana: Combine the luxury of being located on the oceanfront along with having a simple private bathroom. All are perched atop the properties natural rocky ledge affording them stunning ocean views.

All have a small outdoor terrace complete with two hammocks and lounge furniture. Immediate access to the beach is via natural steps.

Oceanview Cabana: The same as Oceanfront, just set back slightly from ocean.

Jungle Cabana: These round wooden cabanas are located one row behind the oceanfront cabanas providing them with jungle views. They are identical in size and structure to the oceanfront cabanas and are located around 20 meters back from the beach. The beach is a short walk through the properties garden paths. Bedding is either 1 or 2 x Doubles (full size). All of these cabanas have a simple private bathroom.

Casitas: Roomier than cabanas, with higher ceilings and a king size bed.  An additional roll-in bed is usually available.  (Please let us know when you reserve your spot that you will need one.)  Some have small private pools.  All have outdoor lounge areas + air conditioning.

Oceanfront Casita: Papaya Playa’s newest and exciting accommodation offering, the New Oceanfront Casitas are located just meters from the ocean. They are some of the Riviera Maya’s most unique accommodation offerings and should not be overlooked if natural luxury with sophistication is what you are looking for. The New Casitas with 35 square meters (377 sq feet) offer spacious sleeping with high ceilings and plenty of natural light. Air conditioning is available however they have been specifically designed to catch the breeze, providing eco-friendly cooling. Bedding is 1 King.  Papaya Playa Project has developed the new style of casitas which our many customers prefer for the additional space and comfort they are accustomed to in their urban environments.  The new Casitas rooms are elevated on stilts so that small animals may pass below and that growth of nature may continue in an unobstructed manner. Supplies, furniture, decoration are all made in the local region, conscious of the need of helping the local communities. Recovered and recycled wood is used in our constructions as a building standard and, much of the wood and other materials we use have been rejected for imperfections by some of the local woodworking shops.

Oceanfront Casita with POOL: Same luxury described as above, with a private pool

Jungle Casita with POOL: Luxury is most sensibly manifested in our Casitas Jungle Experience furnished with large front terraces, plunge pools and roof decks rising above the jungle, expanding the viewer’s horizons in all directions.  These fancy units are fundamentally down-to-earth constructs – made of locally sourced and low-impact materials; shaped and equipped to sustain the excesses of natural forces typical of the coastal area and tropical climate; styled very much in accordance with the native tradition of vernacular architecture.  Thatched casitas lining half-hidden in the opulent jungle above the beach are built of wood which reinforces a thick layer of clay-like composite substance containing extract of the chuckun tree. The chuckun sap makes the walls – as robust as concrete – more elastic and resistant to the pressure of winds and offers a fine surface when polished.  Full-facade sliding windows allow an abundance of natural light to permeate all areas of the casitas. Beautifully massive wooden windshields moved from both sides seal the front protecting the building from drastic weather conditions. The shields are strong enough to sustain hurricanes.  The interior is as neatly ascetic as it gets. It is from this thoughtful simplicity the casitas derive most of their charm. High arched ceiling bestows the inside an inviting flair. White and off-white colors which almost total the palette expand the space perceptually making its limits evanescent and the room far more generous. So does the facade-wide floor-to-ceiling window that unlocks the place to infinity – incorporating or giving itself to it. Breeze that gently transpierces the space filling it with fresh air and chill intensifies the subjective experience of the interior, making it tangible. King-size bed assumes its due without infringing upon the rest of the area. Seating is provided in avoidance of furniture which would only encumber the space – in the form of protruding monolith stretched along the wall and fully integral with it. It can also serve as a shelf, a table, an extra bed.  The casita space is partitioned so that its fair third is given to a partly open-plan bathroom appointed with a rain-shower and a washstand.  With Tulum being one of the greatest romantic getaways in the world and Papaya Playa – an escape a step further, the casitas are ideal for traveling couples who value tranquility and seclusion while not entirely objecting to the idea of quality nightlife once in a while, if only for a change. Casitas are advantageously situated within a walking distance from the beach club famous for its jubilant parties every Saturday.  Luxury is most sensibly manifested in our Casitas Jungle Experience furnished with large front terraces, plunge pools and roof decks rising above the jungle, expanding the viewer’s horizons in all directions.
